Hornswaggler | The culture, the humor, a bit of the sports, not so much the politics, and the workplace distraction

Hornswaggle is an alternate spelling of hornswoggle, an archaic word that means to bamboozle or hoodwink. I take my pronunciation from the late Harvey Korman in "Blazing Saddles" --

"I want rustlers, cutthroats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, conmen, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswagglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass kickers, shit kickers and Methodists!"

Richard Cohen's mental problems

Cohen has written a typically incoherent piece about how Roman Polanski should not be extradited to the U.S. but how nonetheless Cohen would like to punch him in the face.

Perhaps the belligerence is just a rhetorical pose to shield him against accusations of defending a rapist. But then again this tough-guy posturing is typical of Cohen. Let's assume for the moment that he actually means what he says here: What kind of a lunatic wants to fight Roman Polanski over a crime he committed 30 years ago? What Polanski did was horrible and repulsive, but that doesn't mean I want to pummel him. Look at the mug accompanying Cohen's post. He looks like a muppet. Does he understand how ridiculous he appears when he tries to get macho?

And it's interesting to see Richard Cohen come to the defense of a woman in this manner, seeing as how he was disciplined for allegedly sexually harassing a young female colleague 10 years ago. As transgressions go, sexual harassment and the rape of a minor are not even in the same galaxy, but Cohen seems like an imperfect candidate to champion a woman's honor.
