Hornswaggler | The culture, the humor, a bit of the sports, not so much the politics, and the workplace distraction

Hornswaggle is an alternate spelling of hornswoggle, an archaic word that means to bamboozle or hoodwink. I take my pronunciation from the late Harvey Korman in "Blazing Saddles" --

"I want rustlers, cutthroats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, conmen, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswagglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass kickers, shit kickers and Methodists!"

Whiteboard guy

It's football season, so the UPS whiteboard guy is back with new ads. I used to wonder how he got this gig. Did he post a Craigslist ad? "Vaguely creepy man, 40s, with weird haircut and uncanny whiteboard skills, seeks position as pitchman for major U.S. corporation."

Then I realized I could simply google "UPS whiteboard ads" and up came a Slate piece from 2007 that explains the whole thing, i.e. how whiteboard guy is actually the head of the advertising company that created the campaign. It's a decent article, though I disagree with Seth Stevenson's assertion that the ads are "mesmerizing." I'd go with "slightly diverting" and "highly mockable."
