Hornswaggler | The culture, the humor, a bit of the sports, not so much the politics, and the workplace distraction

Hornswaggle is an alternate spelling of hornswoggle, an archaic word that means to bamboozle or hoodwink. I take my pronunciation from the late Harvey Korman in "Blazing Saddles" --

"I want rustlers, cutthroats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, conmen, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswagglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass kickers, shit kickers and Methodists!"

The most disconcerting thing at my long-overdue deep cleaning -- besides the fact that the guy doing the cleaning didn't know how to use the word "yourself," messing it up repeatedly, eg "We'll numb that up right there for ya, which should make things more comfortable for yourself" -- was the urgency with which he would reach for the water nozzle and suction tube when his scraping produced bleeding, which was often. Like every fraction of a second counted in the race to clear out the blood. Also, at a certain point he adjusted my seat up and stood to do his work. I turned off my iPod for a moment and could hear him breathing a bit heavily from the exertion. Then he exhaled the way someone might when he's concentrating on defusing a bomb, a sort of deep OK-buddy-you-can-do-this breath that in the movies would be combined with a wiping of sweat from the brow. Good times.
